The M&F Earning Model

Earn From Your Skill — Not Just Your Time

At M&F we believe experienced stylists should keep the income they generate.

Unlike traditional salons where large percentages are taken from every service, our model allows independent stylists to retain 100% of their service income and generate additional earnings through retail sales.

In many cases, retail alone can cover the cost of the chair.

Example: How Retail Can Cover Your Chair Rent

Typical retail commission in many salons is 10–20%.

At M&F, independent stylists earn:

35% commission on all retail sales

This creates a genuine additional income stream.

Example Day

Retail sold during appointments: £115

35% commission earned:

£40.25

Daily chair rent (full-time rate): £40

Result

Retail commission alone can cover the cost of your chair for the day.

Meaning your service income remains entirely yours.

Example Weekly Income Scenario

Let’s look at a realistic independent stylist working 4 days per week.

Weekly Service Revenue

£1,250 per week turnover
(very typical for an experienced stylist)

Because you keep 100% of service income, that remains yours.

Weekly Chair Rent

4 days x £45 = £180 per week

Retail Example

If you sold just £100 retail per day

4 days x £100 = £400 retail

35% commission:

£140 earned

Net Rent Cost

Weekly rent: £180
Retail earnings: £140

Effective chair cost:

£40 per week

Your services generated £1,250.

A More Established Stylist Scenario

Many experienced stylists reach:

£1,400 – £1,600 weekly turnover

Example:

Service income: £1,500
Retail commission: £175
Chair rent: £200

Net position:

Approximately £1,475 retained income

No employment percentage deducted.

Why Stylists Often Earn More in a Professional Environment

Stylists moving from home working or mobile services often find they can naturally increase their pricing in a premium salon environment.

This happens because:

• Clients perceive greater value in a professional setting
• Consultations feel more structured
• Retail recommendations feel more natural
• Premium surroundings support premium pricing

You may find you earn more from the same clients, without increasing your hours.

Optional Support When You Want It

Every stylist at M&F runs their own independent business.

However we also offer optional support for stylists who want to continue developing their skills or grow their business further.

You are always free to choose what you take advantage of.

Technical Education

Optional training sessions can include:

• Advanced colour techniques
• Modern balayage and blonding
• Consultation and correction techniques
• New product launches

These sessions are designed to help stylists expand services and increase pricing confidence.

Retail & Income Development

Retail can dramatically increase a stylist’s income.

We offer guidance around:

• recommending products naturally during consultations
• creating personalised home-care plans
• building confidence in retail conversations

Many stylists find this becomes their most consistent additional income stream.

Client Experience & Retention

We also share strategies around:

• consultation structure
• client retention
• building long-term loyalty
• premium service experience

These small improvements often lead to higher average spend per client.

Independence First

Everything we provide is optional.

You remain fully independent and run your business your way.

Our goal is simply to provide an environment where experienced stylists can thrive.

If You’d Like to Explore the Opportunity

We always begin with a confidential conversation about your current situation and where you’d like your career to go next.

No pressure, no obligation.

Just an honest discussion between professionals.
